People believe that a teenager's life consists of studying, playing video games, and hanging out with friends, but this is not the case for Samar Bakshi. She is only 16 years old and runs a small lip gloss business. She does everything herself, from making the lip gloss to shipping it to customers.
Samar is from Srinagar, where no one believes that lip gloss can be made at home or that a teen can start a business. But she's here to show them how wrong they are.
Lip glosses and the bottles they come in around the world have always piqued her interest. She wished to launch a similar initiative in India as well. So, in seventh grade, she began researching how to make lip glosses, about vendors, quality, and consistency. However, some argue that you should focus on your studies and that your lip gloss business will not benefit you. But she didn't listen to anyone; instead, she focused on her passion, and after three years of research, testing all of the products on herself to ensure their safety, she finally launched her brand "pink baby girl" in March 2021.
However, no one expected a teen to start her own company so, people started commenting like "You are a teen, you cannot do it alone"; "If you don't share your vendor's name or the way you make these lip glosses, we will report you,"; and "You are not giving us a discount, means you are not helpful". They must understand those small business owners are not their servants; rather, they are individuals who are attempting to start something on their own and bring about change in their society. Samar, on the other hand, was simply pursuing her dreams and was unaffected by these messages. Her secret was hard work, dedication, and independent thinking.
Now, she has entered the world of commerce in order to expand her brand and to inspire all teenagers that it is never too early to start a business.
One piece of advice from Samar :
"You and your accomplishments are not defined by your age. If you have a great idea and the skills to make it a reality, it doesn't matter how old you are!
Please be polite to small business owners; they are working very hard to do everything on their own and provide you with the best service possible."
